About the Role:

The role will be varied, interesting and challenging.  As part of a wraparound team, you will hold a caseload supporting approved Foster Carers and/or family members providing a high quality service to children and young people and our stakeholders. In addition, you will work within a practice framework focussed on a competency-based coaching and capacity building model, and participate in the delivery of caregiver training.

 

About You

To be successful you will have a strong understanding of and solid skills relating to Foster Care and the wider care sector. The role will primarily be based within the community working with foster carers, managing the support and education of carers and maintaining the safety of the child or young person in care. Travel within and around the greater Auckland region is an expectation of the role so flexibility and the ability to work unsupervised is an essential component.

Responsibilities

  • Providing placement support to foster carers and families, supervising their practice to ensure the continued safety and placement stability of our children and young people in their care
  • Ensure the completion of all case management documentation, for operational compliance
  • Ensure compliance with business policies, practice manuals and child protection procedures
  • Carry out assessments of potential foster carers and contribute to coaching and training

 

Experience and Skills Required

  • Hold a Social Work qualification that is recognised by the NZSW Registration Board.
  • Have substantial experience in social work practice with children, young people and their families and have an understanding of the unique challenges faced by children in foster care.
  • Be self-motivated, able to work independently and in partnership with other community based organisations.
  • Understand attachment theory and trauma and the impact this has on development and behaviour.
  • Demonstrate excellent personal and professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with children, their wider family/whanau networks and foster carers.
  • Want to contribute to sustainable change for children and young people.
  • Have a proven track record of writing high quality competency-based assessments and other reports.
  • Enjoy varied work opportunities including the delivery of training, recruiting and visiting carer households.
  • Participate in an office duty system and an out-of-hours on call support service.
  • Understand the meaning of cultural safety and bi-cultural practices while being respectful and observant of Tikanga Maori
  • Current New Zealand driving license, is a must as you will receive a company vehicle

HOURS: 'Casual' - Hours are needs based. Hours are also not consistent / regular. Full Time 40 hrs/wk flexibility required due to travel (as you will work within the community)
